DSO Professional Code of Practice

 DSO Members must comply with the international trade regulations.


  1. DSO Members must source natural gemstones only from known licensed/certified suppliers that meet ethical trading standards.
  2. DSO Members must source natural polished diamonds only from known licensed/certified suppliers that only trade in diamonds invariably derived from KPCS certified parcels.
  3. DSO Members must have a clear understanding about ethical sourcing and consult Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS), laboratories, governamental and non-governamental organizations in order to stay informed and educated.


The KPCS is a joint governments, industry and civil society initiative to prevent “conflict diamonds” from entering the mainstream market subsequent to United Nations General Assembly Resolution 55/56 following the recommendations in the Fowler Report.


The Kimberley Process (KP) is an international trading protocol started in 2003 that aims at regulating the shipments of rough diamonds; upon satisfactory checks, it issues certificates of compliance to the rough diamonds parcels that are sealed as ‘conflict-free’.

DSO certified ethical trader

A Certified Ethical Traders (CET) can issue a Certificate of Ethical Compliance (CEC) for their products and stock that meet the DSO Ethical Product Parameters listed below.


The CEC product certificate is designed to inform Customers about the ethical compliance and the ethical footprint of their purchase.


The CEC product certificate also certifies that the product has been tested and it is a natural gemstone (not synthetic/Lab-grown/treated).

DIAMOND – NATURAL LABORATORY CERTIFIED

This Product Certificate is exclusive to and it can only be used by DSO Certified Ethical Trader in accordance with DSO Ethical Product Parameters.

A DSO Certified Ethical Trader can issue this certificate to inform Customers that the product is natural and it conforms to ethical standards.

This certificate can only be assigned to a diamond with the following parameters:

  • Natural Mined Diamond (tested)
  • Laboratory Tested and Graded (certified)
  • Ethically Sourced (it was sourced from a known licensed/certified supplier in compliance with      international trade regulations and it invariably derived from a rough diamond that complies with Kimberley Process Certification Scheme)


Certificate Number: DSO/NM/LTC/KPCC [Long Code: Diamonds Standards Organization / Natural Mined / Laboratory Tested Certified / Kimberley Process Certification Compliant] 

DIAMOND – NATURAL INDEPENDENTLY TESTED

This Product Certificate is exclusive to and it can only be used by DSO Certified Ethical Trader in accordance with DSO Ethical Product Parameters.


A DSO Certified Ethical Trader can issue this certificate to inform Customers that the product is natural and it conforms to ethical standards.


This certificate can only be assigned to a diamond with the following parameters:

  • Natural Mined Diamond (tested)
  • Non Laboratory Graded (uncertified)
  • Ethically Sourced (it was sourced from a known licensed/certified supplier in compliance with      international trade regulations and it invariably derived from a rough diamond that complies with Kimberley Process Certification Scheme)


Certificate Number: DSO/NM/NLG/KPCC [Long Code: Diamonds Standards Organization / Natural Mined / Non Laboratory Graded / Kimberley Process Certification Compliant] 

GEMSTONE – NATURAL MINERAL CRYSTAL

This Product Certificate is exclusive to and it can only be used by DSO Certified Ethical Trader in accordance with DSO Ethical Product Parameters.


A DSO Certified Ethical Trader can issue this certificate to inform Customers that the product is natural and it conforms to ethical standards.


This certificate can only be assigned to a gemstone (Sapphire, Emerald, Ruby etc.) with the following parameters:

  • Natural (tested)
  • Ethically Sourced (it was sourced from a known licensed/certified supplier in compliance with      international trade regulations and and it invariably derived from a rough gemstone that was ethically sourced)
