DSO Professional Code of Practice

  1. DSO Members must comply with the international trade regulations.
  2. DSO Members must source natural gemstones only from known licensed/certified suppliers that meet ethical trading standards.
  3. DSO Members must source natural polished diamonds only from known licensed/certified suppliers that only trade in diamonds invariably derived from KPCS certified parcels.
  4. DSO Members must have a clear understanding about ethical sourcing and consult Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS), laboratories, governamental and non-governamental organizations in order to stay informed and educated.

The KPCS is a joint governments, industry and civil society initiative to prevent “conflict diamonds” from entering the mainstream market subsequent to United Nations General Assembly Resolution 55/56 following the recommendations in the Fowler Report.

The Kimberley Process (KP) is an international trading protocol started in 2003 that aims at regulating the shipments of rough diamonds; upon satisfactory checks, it issues certificates of compliance to the rough diamonds parcels that are sealed as ‘conflict-free’.
